Working on the Shrewsbury Chronicle at the moment, and articles will follow in stages, so keep looking!
Shrewsbury Chronicle 1750 to 1850
Some articles are unforgettable. The description of the execution of Elizabeth Herring, the wife of a waterman, from September 1773 is one such. Elizabeth killed her husband by throwing a knife at him during an argument, but the manner of her execution was truly barbaric - first strangled and then burned.
In October 1837, David Davies of Upton Magna got a good deal more than he bargained for when he hitched a lift on the canal boat manned by William Wilday and John Morris.
